Consists of literary, religious and historical manuscripts including genealogies, biographies and local histories largely pertaining to Mali (also known as French Sudan prior to independence), but also relating to Senegal, expecially in the French colonial correspondence from Senegal.
Microfilm for reels 8-12 (= 8:1-5) originally produced in Mali for William A. Brown for use in his dissertation, "The Caliphate of Hamdullahi, ca. 1818-1864" (Ph. D., Univ. of Wisconsin, 1969)
